Descendants of Togo
We Are SERUMRUN
We are Faye and Shania Bailey (mother and daughter) who own a small kennel based in Yorkshire with over 25 years experience in sled dogs.
Individually we have our own kennels of show and racing sled dogs under the kennel names, Northernwolf
and Artictrail.
Together we have now created a full agouti working kennel, Serumrun. The name comes from the 1925 “race of mercy” where teams of sled dogs relayed across Alaska to bring a life-saving serum to the children of Nome who were dying from an outbreak of diphtheria.
One hundred years later, we are proud to own descendants of those dogs who bravely travelled hundreds of miles in gruelling conditions, especially Leonhard Seppala’s Togo, a twelve year old husky who travelled the most miles.
The relay began in the small town of Nenana and finished in the town of Nome. Some other villages along the route included Ruby, Galena, Nulato and of course Norton Sound, hence where some of our dogs get their names from.
